Smith Journal: Volume Two

The miracle pig.
The humble potato.
The misunderstood handkerchief.
The stately pinball.
The vanishing art of pickpocketing.

All in Smith Journal volume two, out now.

Introducing: Mavis

Mavis is the skinny sister of the beloved Audrey, and is about as small as a bi-fold can get, without missing out on the essentials. Featuring 12 card slots, double banknote/receipt space and is finished with a zipper area on the back so you can grab your coins in a jiffy. Mavis is available now in red, royal blue and tan here.

Stockist Spotlight: Lee and Me

Photography by John Benavente

Lee and Me has long been a part of the Status family. Since opening their doors in 2008, Lee and Me has created a little community, a hub, where you can feel comfortable and inspired - leaving with a full tummy and some new threads (or leather!). We talk to Lee and Me Boutique Manager, Ryan Xuereb.

Q: What is it about Lee and Me that makes it so charming?

A major contributing factor would have be the beautiful heritage terrace that we operate out of and love to call home. It's been the inspiration for many aspects of the shop, from the interior design and merchandising to the 'heritage' collection we started several months ago....the team also shares a great passion for what we do from the food to the fashion and great coffee which I believe is the heart beat that makes Lee and Me a charming place to be.

Q: How do you select the labels that you stock in store? What are some of your favourites?

Simple. We select what we love .... and love to wear!!! You could say it's like our very own desired wardrobe. Favourite labels for me would have to be hands down Vanishing Elephant, Herschel Supply Co. and Dr Denim.

Q: What's your favourite thing about working there?

It would have to be that I get to work with the things that LOVE - from buying to merchandising, working with people sometimes it doesn't even feel like work because Ilove it so much... not to mention the great coffee and food that I get to enjoy everyday!

Q: Speaking of great food, what do we have to order off the menu?

Couple of my faves:

Vanilla hotcakes :w rhubarb and cinnamon compote, sweet ricotta maple syrup and a pistachio and pecan praline.$15

Angel Hair pasta:w charred asparagus spears, mushroom duxelle, fetta, toasted parmesan crumb and beuree noisette.$17

Fritters: sweetcorn, spinach and fetta fritters with poached eggs and relish.$15

Lee and Me can be found at 87 Crown Street, Wollongong. They are currently offering a $20 voucher for the cafe if you spend $40 or more in the boutique...hey...that's a flip wallet and then lunch is on us!

Sneak Peek: Elsa

We're probably jumping the gun a little here, but I figure we can show you...you've got such trusting eyes.... wanted to introduce you to the newest member of our family...the beautiful Elsa. It's true what they say that you can't put a price tag on love, but you can on all it's accessories. Made from soft lamb leather, keep your eyes peeled, she'll be available at the end of month in four leathers. Yours for $75.

Hey Lover!

Love Day is just around the corner, and to show we love you, we're offering 25% OFF whatever style your heart desires. Simply type in 'lover' at the checkout to receive your discount.

Stockist Spotlight: Vegas & Rose

We're excited to welcome Vegas & Rose into our Status family. They are the new kids on the block, and Ballarat couldn't be luckier to have them. We recently spoke to owner Penthea about her new boutique cafe.

Q: Congratulations on opening up your café and boutique guys! What made you start this exciting venture?

A: I've worked in the hospitality industry off and on for many years and always thought I would love to try doing it for myself one day. We opened 3 weeks ago and are loving it. I've been at home for the last 4 years looking after my two little ones aged 4 1/2 and 3. Last year I opened an ETSY shop selling vintage homewares online. Plus doing vintage markets around the inner north of Melbourne. We moved to Ballarat earlier this year and decided to set up Vegas and Rose here. Cafe plus vintage homewares, gifts plus Status Anxiety = Vegas and Rose. The locals have been very welcoming.

Q: What’s your vision for the shop?

A: I'd say our vision is to keep serving up brilliant coffee. Good quality locally sourced produce. Keep the menu simple but interesting. And of course I'd love all of our customers to own at least one Status Anxiety wallet!

Q: What do we have to try from the menu?

A: Coffee Supreme of course! Roasted in Melbourne. Lucky us...we are the only cafe serving Coffe Supreme in Ballarat. yippee! Our house made cheesy spinach and feta savoury muffins seem to be a hit! Plus we make a delicious Rosewater and Pistachio cupcake { my personal favourite }

You can find Vegas & Rose at 96 Humffray Street North, Ballarat 3350.
